As the world’s major pizza chains race to be the best low-cost provider of all things pizza to all people everywhere, Scott Gittrich, the founder and CEO of Toppers Pizza, realized an unmet need.
People craved something more than cheap, homogenous delivery—they wanted a better-tasting pizza and they wanted it fast. By taking the quality ingredients and innovative concepts often seen in the fast-casual world and offering it to their customers through quick delivery, Toppers emerged as a fierce competitor in the $40 billion pizza industry—and so far, this plan of attack is working. Most recently, Toppers landed the top spot in a new readers’-favorite survey by the Daily Meal, beating out big brands like Domino’s and Pizza Hut.
“We asked readers to vote only for chains that they’ve been to, of course, but also asked them to choose those they truly respect,” the Daily Meal stated. “They were told to take into account the freshness and deliciousness of the product as well as the service, convenience, menu diversity and overall experience. Some voted based on loyalty to local chains, while others preferred the big guys.”
According to the Daily Meal, Toppers “rocketed to the top of the list this year thanks to a loyal following and the craveable Topperstix.” The fact that Toppers puts customer service and fresh toppings at the forefront of its brand doesn’t hurt, either.
